big changes

Allot has happened since my last posting. Months have flown by, keeping me busy with packing belongings, deciding what to keep and what to discard. That one thing alone can be very cathartic; going through boxes of mementos, and items that haven't been used in years, but somehow seem important enough to keep. Every time I move, I discard so much, yet each time I still have more to discard. Pack rats!! I recently counted how many times my husband and I have moved. Fourteen times in the twenty-eight years we have been together!! Amazing!
We have returned to the Western Mountains of Maine, an absolutely, breathtakingly, beautiful area. The peace and solitude one can find here is soothing to the soul. Just make sure you don't get caught up in small town politics. Just keep to yourself and be creative, and everything will be fine.

hedgehogs

I've been working on a series of small, gouache paintings of old, stuffed animal toys that I played with as a child: hedgehogs, monkeys, elephants, teddy bears, etc. The intention is to use those images for a series of note cards that will be available for sale sometime in the near future on my website, www.highlandartworks.com .
We all have fond memories of a cherished toy; transporting us back, to a more secure, innocent time in our lives. Over the last few years I have worked on a series of monochromatic oil paintings based on old, family photos, circa 1950's and earlier. What is this recent obsession with my past? Is it because I realize that I have passed a milestone in my life, crossing over that proverbial hill?
I think it's a good practice to step back and review your life from time to time. Make changes; change is good, it keeps you from becoming stagnant. When life gets dull, get moving; sometimes that's meant literally!

Golden Door Gallery, New Hope, PA

I recently brought three new oil paintings of mine to the Golden Door Gallery, in New Hope, Pennsylvania. You can go there to view them in person in order to get a good look at my work. New hope is a wonderful, little, artistic town on the banks of the Delaware River, across the bridge from Lambertville, New Jersey. There are many interesting shops and galleries to browse in, and hopefully buy some artwork! We artists need your support.

Welcome

I am a fine artist living and working in the North East. Examples of my work will be available for view soon at Highland Artworks.
